About this book:

Secondhand Saints "Secondhand Saints" is a darkly comic caper centered on a crew of scavengers who navigate a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by the "undead cycle." Initially focused on profiting from selling relics of the Old World, the narrative quickly evolves as the crew—Elara (the coordinator), Silas (the locksmith), Lena (the medic), and Kael (the driver)—discovers that these relics are not merely historical artifacts but components of an ancient, alien electromagnetic network. This network, responsible for the reanimation of the dead and the degradation of society, was seeded across the globe by an unseen "Forger" who manipulated human history and belief for centuries.

The crew's initial heist of a "saint's chalice" and a subsequent infiltration of the Metropolitan Collection reveal the existence of a larger system and a "green box" that acts as a primary activator. A decrypted journal from Elias Thorne, a fellow researcher and collector, and further analysis by their remote technomancer, Ophelia, expose the terrifying truth: the undead cycle is a "systemic error" of an alien intelligence using Earth as an archive. The relics, categorized by "blood types," are nodes in a global network, and their activation has drawn the attention of unseen "observers." The team then races to acquire "The Gentleman with the Missing Pulse" from a reclusive collector, learning that the "Auctioneer's Prayer" isn't a catalyst for destruction, but an event meant to provide a human host for the alien network, transforming an individual into a living interface.

Lena, due to her unique bio-signature and accidental exposure, becomes increasingly attuned to the network, inadvertently becoming the intended "host." A harrowing infiltration of a financial tower's data core, a gravity-bending "sphere" of spacetime, allows Lena to achieve full immersion and retrieve a "blueprint" revealing the network's true nature: it's not a machine or a god, but a vast, ancient language that archives consciousness. Dr. Marguerite Voss, the presumed "Forger," is revealed to be a researcher who chose to integrate with the network, leaving clues for a future generation to "finish" or "tear down" her work.

The climax sees the crew journey to an ancient NATO research station, the network's fail-safe, where Lena confronts the Doctor, a collector who seeks to control and weaponize the network. Lena, using her integration and Voss's blueprint, performs a "counter-offer," purging the network's destabilizing broadcast and containing its vast archive of consciousnesses. This act stops the reanimation, bringing silence and the possibility of recovery to the world. The story concludes with the crew accepting their new roles as reluctant custodians of this knowledge, choosing to selectively preserve and bury the relics, spreading the truth of the network not through digital means, but through physical records, ensuring humanity has a choice if the network ever awakens again. They are no longer just scavengers; they are translators of an ancient, cosmic conversation, now navigating a quieter, though still uncertain, world.
