Summer in Houston MTA
A Love Story

About this book:

Maya, an urban planner, returns to Houston after three years in Seattle, seeking a fresh start. Reacquainting herself with the city's intense humidity and vibrant, diverse energy, she soon meets Ben, a photographer with a deep love for capturing Houston's hidden beauty. Their connection sparks during a chance encounter at Discovery Green, and they begin exploring the city together—from the Menil Collection and Bayou Bend's gardens to the lively rodeo and Galveston's beaches. Their shared adventures reveal a growing bond, blending Maya's professional passion for shaping the city with Ben's artistic vision, culminating in a heartfelt midnight conversation and a kiss at the rodeo that solidifies their romance.

As their relationship deepens, they navigate the challenges of demanding careers, including a misunderstanding about competing priorities that they resolve through honest communication. Ben dedicates a series of photographs to Maya at his successful gallery opening, publicly affirming her influence. Maya is offered a career-defining interim lead role on a downtown park revitalization project, forcing a difficult choice between her professional ambition and their shared dream of renovating a historic River Oaks estate into a home and public art gallery. Ben selflessly encourages her to take the promotion, demonstrating his unwavering support and the strength of their partnership.

The summer climaxes with Ben proposing under a star-filled sky, gifting Maya a unique abalone shell ring and a journal to document their shared dreams. They celebrate their engagement with a gathering of friends and family along Buffalo Bayou, a location symbolizing their connection to Houston. The River Oaks project begins, intertwining their professional and personal lives as they plan a spring wedding. Through the challenges and triumphs, Maya and Ben solidify their commitment, building a future together in the city that brought them together.
