Summer in Jacksonville MTA
A Love Story

About this book:

Clara flees Boston after a painful breakup and moves in with her sister Sophie in Jacksonville, hoping for a fresh start. Settling into Sophie’s vibrant Riverside home, she quickly explores the city’s neighborhoods, history, and natural beauty, from the Cummer Museum’s gardens to the banks of the St. Johns River. During an evening twilight market she meets Ethan, a local construction worker who sketches the river’s light and shares her love for art and storytelling. Their easy connection sparks a series of dates—coffee at Bold Bean, a picnic in Memorial Park, a boat ride on the river, and a rain‑soaked adventure in San Marco—while Clara also begins collaborating with Ethan on a ambitious mural project that will depict Jacksonville’s layered history.

As their professional partnership deepens, so does their personal bond, though Clara wrestles with lingering doubts about repeating past mistakes and fears of being a rebound. Ethan’s patient honesty and unwavering support help her confront those insecurities, especially after a shocking encounter with her ex‑fiancé Marcus at a beachside café reopens old wounds. Through candid conversations, shared creative work, and the steady presence of Sophie and their friends, Clara learns to let go of her past, embraces her own courage, and trusts Ethan’s genuine affection. The mural’s design evolves through their teamwork, earning official city approval and becoming a public symbol of resilience and community.

With the mural completed and their love affirmed, Ethan proposes under the stars at the Jacksonville Landing, presenting Clara with a sapphire ring. They marry in a barefoot ceremony on Atlantic Beach, surrounded by family and friends, and begin renovating their newly purchased 1920s Craftsman bungalow in Riverside. Clara launches her own design studio, “Bold City Creative,” while Ethan continues his construction work, and together they nurture a life rooted in creativity, love, and the enduring spirit of the city they now call home. The story closes with Clara reflecting on how Jacksonville—once an escape—has become the foundation of a lasting, joyful future built brick by brick with Ethan beside her.
