About this book:

The Vanishing Archive of Hollow Ridge Nora Quinn returns to her coastal hometown of Hollow Ridge after the death of her father, Patrick Quinn, a beloved harbormaster and volunteer archivist. At the memorial she learns that the town’s historical society vault has been breached and valuable documents are missing. Her father’s cryptic notes—references to a “hum” in old paper, a hidden counter‑archive, and a secret group called the Custodians—prompt her to investigate. Together with childhood friend and journalist Jonah Blake, she deciphers clues in a Silas Thorne diary, discovers a forged‑deed conspiracy that enriched families like the Cranes and Ortegas, and uncovers a murder that was covered up for generations.

Their search leads them through a series of dangerous encounters: a break‑in at the society, a pursuit across the bay, a hidden compartment in a lighthouse, and ultimately a subterranean chamber beneath the First Congregational Church where the Custodians kept stone tablets recording their oath and lineage. Miguel Ortega, the sheriff and a longtime friend, is revealed to be a complicit guardian of the secret, having tried to destroy the evidence by fire. The climax erupts on Founders’ Day when Nora and Jonah expose the Custodians’ modern ledger—detailing bribes, payoffs, and ongoing corruption—via a live broadcast from the church crypt, forcing the town to confront its buried past.

In the aftermath, the physical archives are lost to the sea or destroyed, but the digital evidence Nora and Jonah secured spreads nationwide, prompting investigations, lawsuits, and the dismantling of the Crane empire. Nora chooses to return to her conservation work in Boston, leaving behind a renewed Hollow Ridge where the truth, though painful, is finally public. The story closes with her reflection that some archives must vanish so that the truth can endure.
