Market Day at Hollow Bridge
MTA
A small-town mystery of trade, betrayal, and an undead threat that won't stay fenced in
2nd Edition
In "Market Day at Hollow Bridge," the quiet town of Hollow Bridge falls victim to a calculated takeover by Omnicorp Ventures. The corporation systematically poisons the local water supply with a neurotoxin to make residents compliant, while simultaneously replacing the traditional barter economy with a predatory scrip system. As people fall ill and disappear into the "quarantine zone" south of the bridge, three unlikely protagonists—merchant Cole Mercer, retired teacher Ruth Darnell, and mechanic Jamie Quill—uncover the conspiracy through careful observation, record-keeping, and mechanical ingenuity.
The tension peaks when Cole infiltrates the corporate compound under the guise of building a "sonic emitter" designed to herd the contaminated, mindless residents. Instead, he modifies the device to draw the victims back home, exposing the true horror of the operation to the entire town. Amidst a chaotic confrontation at the bridge, the townspeople—armed with Ruth’s meticulously gathered evidence—finally break their silence and revolt against the corporate enforcers.
The story concludes with the arrest of the conspirators and the arrival of federal investigators. Although the town is left physically and economically scarred, the residents begin the slow process of recovery by returning to an honest barter system. They ultimately find that their true resilience lies not in corporate "stability," but in the restored trust and shared vigilance of a community that refused to stay silent.
