The Lighthouse of Vanished Names MTA
A Coastal Thriller of Secrets, Smuggling, and Redemption

About this book:

In *The Lighthouse of Vanished Names*, marine biologist Mara Ellison returns to her coastal hometown of Port Blossom following the sudden death of her father, the longtime keeper of the local lighthouse. Amidst a controversial harbor "renewal" project led by the ambitious developer Evelyn Pike, Mara discovers a secret ledger hidden by her father. This canvas-bound book contains a chronological record of people who vanished from the town over fifty years, accompanied by cryptic tidal coordinates and notations of "payments" made to her father for his silence.

Assisted by her childhood friend, Deputy Dane Harlow, Mara investigates the intersection of her father’s guilt and the town’s corruption. They uncover a sophisticated smuggling operation that utilized a network of sea caves and tunnels hidden beneath the lighthouse—a system known as the "honeycombed rock." Mara realizes that the Pike family has used these tunnels for decades to move contraband and "expedite" the disappearance of inconvenient locals, and that the modern development project is a front designed to seal these chambers forever under concrete foundations.

The conflict escalates into a life-threatening confrontation during a massive storm, as Mara and Dane navigate the treacherous subterranean tunnels to retrieve evidence while being pursued by Evelyn’s enforcers. After a harrowing escape through a tidal sluice known as "The Shelf," Mara is forced to sacrifice the primary ledger to the sea to prevent it from falling back into Evelyn's hands. However, she retains her father’s private journal, which contains the coordinates and confessions necessary to expose the conspiracy.

In the aftermath, Mara chooses to go public with the evidence, rejecting a lucrative settlement offer from Evelyn that would have continued the cycle of silence. The town council, faced with undeniable proof of the geological instability and criminal history of the site, votes to halt the development. Though the legal battle remains ongoing and her father’s legacy is forever tarnished by his complicity, Mara finds redemption by restoring the lighthouse’s purpose as a symbol of transparency, ensuring the "vanished names" are finally acknowledged by the community.
