A mystery anthology set inside a drifting orbital ark full of secrets and reconstructed lives
The *Archive of Broken Moons* is a mystery anthology set aboard a drifting orbital ark where humanity’s history and individual identities are meticulously curated and reconstructed to ensure social stability. The narrative follows Kai, a Senior Custodian of Biographical Integrity, who discovers a series of "mismatched" biographies and "duplicate" deaths that reveal a dark reality: the ruling Council uses "Reconstruction" technology not just for healing, but to edit personalities, prune rebellious lineages, and replace citizens with compliant "iterations." This "Algorithm of Forgetting" is exposed as a tool to maintain a perpetual state of emergency and preserve the power of the Twelve Founders.
As Kai digs deeper, he uncovers the legacy of Vesper, the redacted "Thirteenth Founder," who anticipated the Council’s tyranny and built a hidden infrastructure of rebellion. Through secret codes in nursery rhymes, annotations in the founding charter, and a "scaffold of lives" containing discarded memory fragments, Vesper left the tools for a total systemic recalibration. Kai joins forces with the reclusive "Gardeners" of the vacuum gardens and the inhabitants of the "Broken Moons"—abandoned sectors that actually serve as mobile, hidden sanctuaries for those the Council deemed "residue." Together, they realize the Ark has been held in a fake orbit for centuries to prevent the population from reaching their true destination, Gaia-Prime.
The story culminates in a "Quiet Coup" within the Library’s server stacks, where Kai activates the Thirteenth Protocol. This broadcast overwrites the Council’s lies with the unredacted history of every citizen, revealing their true genealogies and the ship’s actual navigation logs. Despite a violent counter-attack by the Council's security forces, the truth prevails, paralyzing the Ark's automated defenses and forcing a democratic referendum. The colony chooses to embrace its fractured past and engage the long-dormant engines for a full-power journey to the green world.
The book concludes with the Ark’s arrival at Gaia-Prime. The former rigid social hierarchy dissolves as the ship’s modular architecture reconfigures into planetary settlements. The "Library of Continuities" is transformed into the "Archive of the Unbound," a living repository that values complexity and dissent over curated order. As the survivors descend to the surface to plant Earth-born seeds and memorialize the millions of discarded "echoes," they transition from a people defined by a managed lie to a society built on the honest, resilient soil of their own recovered memories.
