About this book:

The Signal Keeper In the City Archives, researcher Mara Quinn uncovers evidence of a "memory correction" project that has systematically erased the history of her childhood neighborhood, West River Road. Her discovery of a vintage cassette tape reveals a 1999 meeting where city officials and the fledgling corporation Meridian Systems discussed using a sub-audible "signal" to manipulate public memory and suppress protests. As Mara investigates, she realizes that Meridian, led by the charismatic Adrian March, has integrated this technology into the city’s modern infrastructure to create a compliant populace through engineered forgetting.

Assisted by a cynical detective named Jonah Varela and a renegade radio technician named Malik, Mara navigates a city that is actively being rewritten. She encounters Dr. Ana Reyes, a neuroscientist who claims to be a whistleblower but is later revealed as an architect of the system, using Mara to flush out the last vestiges of resistance. The stakes escalate when Arthur Reed, a community activist who had documented the project for decades, is murdered and framed for terrorism. Mara discovers Arthur’s secret archive—a "deep copy" of the city’s true history—hidden within the foundations of the very buildings meant to replace the past.

In a climactic confrontation atop the Meridian Tower, Mara hijacks the city’s broadcast network. She overrides the "Tranquility" signal with Arthur’s evidence, forcing the public to hear March’s own voice confessing to the social engineering of their lives. Though March attempts to destroy the tower to silence the truth, the broadcast sparks a widespread awakening. Mara is arrested, but the narrative control is shattered as citizens begin to reclaim their suppressed memories. In the end, March’s empire collapses, and Mara finds peace in knowing that while the city's history is messy and painful, it is finally, undeniably, their own.
