The Fixer of Dreamland
A 1947 Los Angeles Noir

About this book:

Los Angeles, 1947. The Santa Ana winds blow hot and mean, and the studio system runs on secrets buried deeper than the bodies in Chavez Ravine. Frank Mason doesn't solve crimes—he erases them. As Apex Pictures' "Special Consultant," his toolkit includes industrial bleach, canvas tape, a snub-nosed .38, and the phone numbers of every cop and columnist who can be bought. When the studio's newest star turns up dead on a Persian rug in the Majestic Hotel, three hours before her next picture starts shooting, Frank has until the morning editions to turn a murder into a suicide, a scandal into a tragedy, and a liability into a legend.

But Evelyn Mercer's death doesn't stay cleaned up. From the cutting rooms to the jazz clubs, from the producer's ledger to the LAPD payroll, every thread Frank pulls unravels something worse: blackmail negatives, a mogul's ultimatum, a starlet's double life, and a conspiracy that reaches from the backlots to City Hall. The more he fixes, the dirtier his hands get—and the only way out is through a finale written in blood on the soundstage floor.

Raymond Chandler's mean streets meet *The Godfather*'s studio system in a noir where the fixers are the only honest men in town, because they know exactly what everything costs. *The Fixer of Dreamland* delivers 26 chapters of smoke, bourbon, neon, and rain—where every alibi is a lie, every friendship has a price, and the final edit comes for us all.
