The translation matrix on Sam’s console went wild, the blue text cascading down the screen so fast it was barely readable.

Sam felt a chill run down his spine. He looked at the console, where the digital signature block of the ICC petition was flashing. The system had captured the complex, multi-frequency electromagnetic pulse from the entities and recorded it as a unique, non-fungible cryptographic key.

The petition was signed.

"We have standing," Sam said, his voice quiet but filled with a sudden, intense focus. "Maya, get us back to orbit. We have exactly eleven days to file this injunction before the Aegis fleet arrives."

"And if Director Thorne refuses to recognize the signature?" Maya asked, her hands shaking as she initiated the ballast blow protocols to begin their ascent.

Sam looked out at the glowing, violet canyon, where the sovereign minds of Geryon were slowly fading back into the deep, warm dark.

"Then she’ll have to explain to the Supreme Court of Geneva why she’s trying to sue a planet," Sam said. "And I don't think her lawyers are going to like the venue."
